This spring, Cavanacor Gallery are presenting the first ever two-person exhibition of Brian Ballard and Lisa Ballard. Father and Daughter have not previously exhibited together as a duo and it will be a welcome event for the Northwest.
Brian Ballard has established a significant reputation over the past thirty years and is one of the country’s leading artists for investment, represented in Ireland’s major public collections. According to Marianne O’Kane Boal; “His contemporary approach to painting alternates between figurative treatment of nudes, and landscape to expressionistic still life, all of which he practises in equal measure and intensity. This trinity of genres has enabled a spontaneity of approach that has endured for the artist in recent decades and yet within this diverse range of output, each composition bears the instantly recognisable stamp of Ballard.” Brian Ballard, Belfast, 2005. The artist has exhibited regularly at Cavanacor Gallery but this will be his largest representation in Donegal to date. Ballard is represented in a number of major public and private collections including; Allied Irish Banks, An Chomairle Ealaion, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Belfast Education Library Board, CR Sugar Trading Cork, Ulster Museum, Crawford Municipal Gallery, Great Southern Hotels, Guiness Peat Aviation, Haverty Trust, National Trust, P.J. Carroll, Royal Bank of Scotland, Salzburg Seminar, U2, Ulster Television and Waterford Glass.
Lisa Ballard obtained a BA in Fine Art from University of Ulster in 2003. She exhibits regularly in the Annual Royal Ulster Academy exhibition, Belfast. She has also shown with Belfast Print Workshop and the Engine Room Gallery. In 2003 she won the Presidents Prize at the Royal Ulster Academy and in 2006 she was awarded the Original Vision Prize sponsored by Robison & Mc Ilwaine Architects. She has been invited as a guest artist to exhibit at the Royal Hibernian Academy Exhibition 2007. Lisa has exhibited in several solo and group exhibitions including Barbara Stanley Gallery, London and Temple Bar Gallery, Dublin. This is Lisa Ballard’s first time to exhibit with Cavanacor Gallery. The exhibition will demonstrate the range of expertise by both practitioners in landscape and still life. There will be over thirty-five paintings on display.
