Jan Svankmajer: Prints & Sculpture
The first exhibition in Ireland of the acclaimed international Czech artist and filmmaker Jan SvankmajerSaturday 25th September 2010
The exhibition continues until 18th December 2010Jan Svankmajer s films and animations are extremely powerful and have become well known throughout Europe. What are also of great interest are his tactile experimentations and prints. These are mixed media sculptures and collages, which he produced from the mid 1970 s. The props he used in his films also became sculptures for his later exhibitions.
For many years Jan Svankmajer's s approach to his artistic activity has achieved underground recognition. Many leading international film makers throughout the world pay homage to his influence. His work spans several media. He is known for his surreal animations and features, which have greatly influenced other artists such as Tim Burton and Terry Gilliam. The famous Brothers Quay named one of their films after him 'The Cabinet of Jan Svankmajer'.
Cavanacor Gallery are honored to be the first Gallery in Ireland to present his work to the public. The exhibition will feature prints and sculpture and short animations by Jan Svankmajer.
