LIA is a not-for-profit art institution founded in 2007 and run by Anna-Louise
Kratzsch. The artist in residency programme is designed to foster international
artists by providing studio space and exhibition opportunities at the
Spinnerei Leipzig, which has one of the largest artist populations in
Germany.
International exhibitions, open studios and panel discussions regularly
take place. LIA hosts artists from the following countries: Australia,
Japan, Ireland, China, Switzerland, Sweden, the USA, Ukraine and Puerto
Rico.
LIA is the official artist in residency programme for the city of Leipzig
our patron being Burkhard Jung, mayor of Leipzig. The programme’s
principal sponsor is BMW Plant Leipzig and HeiterBlick – For quality
of ride.

Shonah Trescott
(1982, Australia) exploring the genre of landscape and the human figure
between abstraction and figurativeness in the medium of painting while
undertaking a residency in LIA. She exhibits new work at the international
Melbourne Art Fair

David
O'Kane
"Untitled",

David O’Kane (1985, Ireland) is working with painting and video;
processing philosophical ideas. He is currently developing his practice
under Professor Neo Rauch at the Academy of Visual Arts, Leipzig. He
recently received a e v+ a open award from the curator, Hou Hanru, in
Limerick, Ireland. He also won the Artistic Projects Tender for the
Serralves Festival in Porto, Portugal.

Nadja
Bournonville
"You

Nadja Bournonville (1983, Sweden) explores the city’s desolate
scenery, empty flats and houses of a once flourishing industrial era
in her photographs she takes in Leipzig. Her work has recently been
acquired for the permanent collection of Hasselblad Center in Sweden.

Aya
Onodera
Mythos

Aya Onoderas’ (1984, Japan) recent body of work is titled ‘Mythos’.
Her paintings are comprised by almost floral, abstract forms and fleshy
colours, oscillating between the erotic and realm of the surreal. Encapsulated
they cue up in cycles following a rhythm or pattern, a colour or line.
Aya Onodera will be part of the Festival ‘OHAYÔ, Japan!’
in September in Leipzig.

Luzian
Obrist
"In
Between", oil and acrylic on canvas, 88 x 65 cm, 2008
Luzian Obrist (1979, Switzerland) consistently reduces his images to
very basic features of a simplified form or a monochrome color. His
minimizing work method adds a surreal finish to his work. In 2008 he
received the iaab-residency fellowship by the Christoph Merian Foundation
and spent six months at LIA.
The
exhibition runs from 2nd August until 30th September 2008.
